Can I use a deep well jet pump in a shallow well?
I have a driven well point with a 1 1/4" pipe. A friend gave me a Dayton 1/2 horse deep well pump.

- yes but be sure there's water at the source
- It must be submerge in water the hole time. If not it will over heat. It`s water cooled. That is the only thing to worry about.
- More info is necessary. Is the pump submersible? Or not? Obviously if it is submersible you can't use it. If it is not a submersible pump you can use it as long as it is fully primed.
- There are a few questions first. You may have to change the heads for a shallow well. If it's a submersible, then of course it won't work.
- If it is a conventional pump then yes is should work fine. Deep well pumps are sometimes used on shallow wells when the water table is lower than normal in that area. It is able to get the water from a greater distance down the pipe.
