Flow Jet Pump

Why wont my new deep well pump stay charged.?

Me and my son just installed a a deep well pump. Everything seemed to check out correctly, but after about a minute or two the pump just stops. It is like it is over heating or something, yet everything that the book says to do is done, can someone please help!! It is 50 feet, it is an above ground pump, and it is warm to the touch, but not hot, hot. I missed one thing, yes the pump is shutting off before it reaches pressure settings.

1. deep as 40 feet with pump above ground or deep as in a submersible ???? does the pump shut off b-4 it gets to press setting???? is the pump to hot to touch????motors are designed to get up to 140 deg.f....,,,may be a defective pump
